Appraisal and Performance Management Course


This management training day is fresh in approach by looking at individual learning styles and preferences. Appraisals are a two-way conversation with planning and preparation required from both the appraiser and appraise (at least that’s what we think!)

We believe that one size does not fit all, nor should your approach to appraisals and performance management. Agreed, we believe there should be minimum standards of performance, fairness and equality of approach and processes….and when you manage people you are managing unique difference! We will cover all aspects of giving and receiving feedback, supporting setting goals, outlining expectations, building confidence and morale through coaching. We will cover the harder stuff too, like managing difficult people, placing your stake in the ground and managing under-performers.

This Appraisal and Performance Management Course is delivered by:

Refreshingly, we will look at managing exceptional performance too and how you can keep momentum whilst your performers are at the top of their game. We’ll cover aspects of “modelling excellence” and link this to how your team can support each-other with unique skills and qualities.

We explore the skills you already have and seek to stretch and ignite your confidence when dealing with stubborn or tricky people. We’ll explore your experiences of appraisals and how this links to our motivational theme of Apply Praise to All. We’ll all get stuck into some great challenging exercises which will allow our “sensory acuity” – our awareness of ourselves (internal dialogue) and externally (how others respond to us). We’ll discover new and fascinating ways to calibrate the effect you have on others as a super manager and coach!

And the best bit, you will be able to ignite a way of discussing achievable outcomes by focussing your people on what they want, creating a vision and having a conversation like they already have achieved it!


Appraisal and Performance Management Course Outcomes:

Explore, discuss and delve into our experience of appraisals from both points of view as the appraiser and appraise uncovering key themes, likes and dislikes

Understand the importance of KPI (key performance indicators) or MSOP (minimum standards of performance) and how this links to individual goals and outcomes

You will gain a better understanding of individual styles and behaviours by exploring sensory language patterns and whole body listening (body language)

You will confidently know how to give evidence based feedback which is congruent, evidence based and a basis for learning and development

You will be able to willingly and openly receive feedback for your own learning and development

You will confidently focus your individual with well-formed outcomes that tunes into their sensory preferences

You will strengthen your ability to manage and deal with combative and conflictive individuals

You will add to your everyday tools to add to your kit ways to support and enhance people’s development through modelling excellence, continue to build confidence and morale

You will notice how you apply these new found skills and feel confident with the knowledge that you are improving day by day with appraisals and performance management.

What We Expect from You During and Following this 1 day Appraisal and Performance Management Open Training Course.

Please be a willing participant, ready to share, be open to learning and ready to embrace new skills and approaches. Our management training – Appraisal & Performance Management open programme is designed to stretch, push boundaries, allow fresh thinking and open up new doors to help you enhance your management skills. We ask you to come prepared to share experiences with appraisals and think about how appraisals could be different.

You will be asked to create a learning journal following completion of your management training, appraisals and performance management to keep fresh and alive in your own mind’s eye the key things that you noticed and what you want to work on. This can be linked to your existing PDP (personal development plan) and if you haven’t got one, we encourage you to create one! You can use your PDP with your line manager as part of your management and leadership journey.
